In the corner of my bedroom is a stack of moving boxes and bags, packed to the brim with decor to make my dorm feel like home. There is something bittersweet about being back in your hometown, even if it’s just for three months. Something about sleeping in your childhood bed after living on your own for a year just tugs at the heart strings.
I am not the same person as I was when I last left these four walls. I’m smarter, happier, and more comfortable in my own skin. And as an added bonus, I have more things to write songs about!
These are the songs that I’m listening to while I pack up my life in cardboard boxes (again):
1. Heart Shaped Locket - Shallow Alcove
This song feels like a warm hug from a childhood friend! Shallow Alcove always knows what to say. I play them all the time on my radio show!
Carry all my old friends
In a heart-shaped locket
Keep em tied around my neck
Even though they hold me back, and
Tying up my loose ends
Into perfect ribbons
Growing older is a gift
Letting go is just a part of itThe hard part is that time, it passes
The best part is that time, it passes
The hard part is it never lasts
But the best part is just that you had it
2. White Teeth - Ryan Beatty
Ryan Beatty will never fail to amaze me with his writing. His 2023 album Calico, was absolutely incredible. I love pushing the Ryan Beatty agenda.
Old summer rain
Some lefts, some rights
So strange
In the porch light
Handprint on a windowpane
Like white teeth to a red wine stain
Some left, but the right ones stay
A good end to a Saturday
3. 4Runner - Alix Page
This song was an immediate ear worm (in the best way possible).
You always look your best in our hometown
In my doorway, in my bedroom
Up and left and now your hair's grown out
Moved to Silverlake, bought a beamer
Never wanna love you like a bad habit
Or a safety net, but when I come home
Half expect to see you waiting in my driveway
So faithful

I only chose three songs because if I didn’t limit myself, this list would be 100 songs long. I did a great interview with singer/songwriter Alix Page earlier today, which will be published on here, my Instagram, and on YouTube in the upcoming days!
